PRO LIFE/CHOICE POSITION

If I am personally opposed to abortion. Should I father a child, I would oppose an abortion.

Some politicians are using the pro-life label to obtain votes, yet they know that they will not be legally able to influence this issue in their position.

Others, like Dan Lipinski, wear the pro-life banner, yet have taken no actions that will actually change the current legal environment.

• The Supreme Court in Roe v Wade has determined that abortion is a constitutional right. I believe that the Supreme Court should have ruled “This is a State’s Rights issue. The Individual States have the authority to make laws in accordance with the direction of their electorate”.

• Some believe that if the Supreme Court were to get one more conservative justice the Court would reverse Roe v Wade. Given the historical reluctance of the court to reverse itself on such a major social issue, it is unlikely that it will do so in this case.

• Eventually a federal court will direct the government to pay for abortions for anyone in a government health care program regardless of any actions by Congress because a constitutional right supersedes federal law. No politician in any office can prevent that from happening.

• There is one realistic option, I am committed to pursue it. I will work with other members of Congress to introduce a Constitutional Amendment to restrict the authority of the activist courts, and specifically the Supreme Court, from interpreting laws in such a manner as to transfer authority from the States to the federal government.

• The Amendment would reinforce the original intent of our Founding Fathers in the 9th and 10th Amendments of the Bill of Rights by returning the authority to make decisions like health care, abortion, etc. to the States.

• When the Amendment is adopted, the citizens of each State will have the authority to determine the State’s position on health care, abortion and a variety of other issues.

• The closer such laws are to the people, the better. It was the intent of our Founding Fathers, it is the foundation of our republic.
I am the only candidate running for office who actually has a specific plan to take that authority away from the nine men and women in black robes on the Supreme Court and to return to the people of the States the right to determine the law.
